To produce renewable energy, the plant pumps seawater from Marseille harbor and then heat exchangers and heat pumps are used to produce cold or heat in the plant, as needed.

SMT built the hot water and chilled water supply networks from the plant to the Euroméditerranée business district.

Although this geothermal power plant system is already being used, for instance in Paris using water from the Seine, the Thassalia power plant is the first in France to use salt water, which causes greater technical strains, particularly in terms of controlling corrosion. Bondstrand® NP16 pipe.
The choice of Bondstrand® Epocal® epoxy resin piping was motivated by the fact that our pipes are insensitive to corrosion and can stay in seawater without suffering any deterioration, and also because of their very low pressure losses.
